Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) formally launched the IUB Rover Scout Group through a programme held at its DMK Lecture Gallery.
As much as 120 participants joined the programme organised by IUB's Division of Student Activities (DoSA) recently, according to a press release.
The initiative aims to provide students with leadership and community service opportunities. The programme began with the opening of the IUB Rover Den and a tree plantation near Gate-5. The ceremony was led by Vice Chancellor and President of the IUB Rover Scout Group Prof. M. Tamim.
Prof. Tamim outlined how rover scouting aligns with IUB's mission to develop responsible, service-oriented graduates and emphasised its role in practical leadership development. Pro-Vice Chancellor and Vice President of the IUB Rover Scout Group Prof. Daniel W. Lund reflected on scouting values and their integration with the academic environment at IUB.
Dhaka District Rover and Bangladesh Scouts Secretary Dr. Mohammad Akkas Ali Akash; Jagannath University Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences former dean and Leader Trainer Prof. Dr. Maniruzzaman Khandakar; Dhaka District Rover Leader Trainer and Commissioner Muhammad Omar Ali and DoSA Head Atif M. Safi also attended the programme.
The event also included a documentary screening and the official unveiling of the IUB Rover Scout Group Scarf. Cultural performances by the rovers followed, and the event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by IUB Rover Scout Leader and Secretary Md. Fazle Rabby and Rover Scout Leader Nur Mohammad Farhad.
The inauguration established the operational framework for the IUB Rover Scout Group and laid the foundation for its activities in leadership, community service, and the promotion of Rover Scouting principles.
