IUB launches SCMLE, CEL for endangered languages

State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid, IUB trustee board member Didar A Hussain, IUB Vice Chancellor Prof Tanweer Hasan and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan were present at the lunching ceremony of the Sasheen Centre for Multilingual Excellence (SCMLE) and the Centre for Endangered Languages (CEL) on the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) campus in the city on Tuesday.

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has launched the Sasheen Center for Multilingual Excellence (SCMLE) and the Center for Endangered Languages (CEL).

State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid inaugurated the centres as the chief guest on the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) campus in the city on Tuesday, says a statement.

K M Khalid said, "The SCMLE and CEL have been established to enrich not only the Bangladeshis' mother language but also the foreign languages. Our Liberation War began with the Language Movement. Our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman fought for our language."

In a video message, Abdul Hai Sarker, chairman of the IUB Board of Trustees, said: "In today's world, language is a key to becoming competitive individuals in the job market. In many Asian and European countries, the medium of instruction is their mother tongues."
