Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Sunday that another milestone had been achieved through her recent participation at the Asian African Summit in Indonesia in brightening the image of Bangladesh with regards to South-South cooperation, reports UNB.
Her participation also served to highlight multifaceted successes and advancement of the government at both national and international levels.
"The active and visible diplomatic participation of Bangladesh in this conference (Asian African Conference 2015), has taken the image of Bangladesh as well as the government to a higher level," she said while addressing a press conference at her official Ganobhaban, convened to highlight her participation at the Asian African Summit held in Indonesia.
The Prime Minister said that through the bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Summit, the bilateral ties of Bangladesh with the concerned countries had been further strengthened.
She said that some 34 heads of state and government and representatives from 105 member countries of the two continents joined the summit held at the Indonesian capital Jakarta on April 22-23.
The Summit adopted the Bandung Message, strategy titled 'Asia-Africa New Strategic Partnership', and Palestine declaration.
In her speech delivered on the opening day of the Summit, the Prime Minister said she had attached special importance to boosting South-South Cooperation towards improvement of the political, economical and social relations among the Asian and African countries.
Highlighting critical issues including fighting hunger and combating terrorism in the context of the post-2015 development agenda, Hasina said she had stressed the need for working together to build a poverty-free, just and discrimination-free society alongside putting emphasis on securing global peace and security, uprooting terrorism and militancy, establishing democracy and good governance and safe migration.
She also elaborated achievements of her government in socio-economic development and women's empowerment over the last six years, as well as concerns over negative impacts of climate change terming Bangladesh as one of the most vulnerable countries.
Meanwhile, Stressing the importance of ensuring education for all, Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina urged on Sunday the affluent section of society to avail of the rebate facility in income tax through donating to the PM's Education Assistance Trust so that no one remain out of school.
"It's now quite surprising that female students are ahead of the male ones at the secondary admission level where the ratio of female and male students is 53:47. To bring gender equality, we need to ensure the enrollment of more male students in addition to finding out which students are dodging their education. We'll have to make sure no one would remain out of school," the PM made the comments while addressing a function after distributing cheques of scholarships among the students of Degree (Pass) and equivalent level from 'PM's Education Assistance Trust' at her office in the city.
Chaired by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Education Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan spoke on the occasion.
