Keraniganj, Mar 4 (UNB): The agitating teachers and students of Jagannath University staged a sit-in in front of Bangladesh Bank Sadarghat branch Tuesday, demanding removal of the branch from the university's land.

The students and teachers started the demonstration around 10:00am as part of their ongoing movement for reclaiming 13 university halls from illegal occupation.

At one stage, they laid a siege to the Bangladesh Bank Sadarghat branch and hung a banner that reads: 'Jagnnath University Academy Bhaban'.

Traffic in the area came to a halt for several hours following the agitation.

Besides, the student also hung a signboard of the university on a land occupied by Samabay Bank in Sutrapur area claiming it as university's land.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education formed a seven-member committee, headed by MP Kazi Feroz Rashid, on March 1 for reclaiming the university's occupied lands. The committee was asked to submit its report with seven days.

On February 23, at least 25 students of the university were injured in a clash with police during their demonstration demanding that the occupied Tibet Hall in Bangla Bazar area in the city be reclaimed.
