Former president of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) and veteran journalist Azmal Hossain Khadem has died at a hospital in the capital. He was 76, report agencies.
"Khadem breathed his last at 12:00 am on Tuesday while he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital", said the family sources of the deceased.
He left behind three daughters, grand children, numerous relatives and well wishers to mourn his last.
His two daughters are now in the United Kingdom (UK).
Born in Akhaura in Brahmanbaria in 1948, Khadem served as a journalist for long time in the then 'Banglar Bani'.
He became famous in presenting 'Sangbad Probaho', a compiled speech of news review of Bangladesh, broadcasting on the Radio Bangladesh.
In the 80's, the programme of 'Sangbad Probaho' was a popular news review that was broadcasted at 9:00 pm every night.
Azmal Hossain Khadem was elected president of the DRU in 1998. He was a permanent member of different journalists' organisations including the Jatiya Press Club (JPC).
