Journalist held on charge of extortion

BAGERHAT, Sept 5 (UNB): Mollah Abdur Rob, a local journalist, was arrested from his office in the district town Monday on charge of extortion.
Police said they arrested him, working with daily Khobor Potro and Abash, after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of Kalia village under Sadar Upazila Sunday filed an extortion case against four people, including Abdur Rob.
In his complaint the plaintiff alleged that the accused, led by Mollah, demanded Tk 25,000 as toll from him and he was forced to pay Tk 10,000 in two installments under threat by the accused.
Earlier on August 24, members of joint forces arrested Sheikh Sawkat Ali Shimul, district correspondent of daily Bhorer Kagoj, while he was taking Tk 10,000 as toll.
