Journalist Nurul Islam passes away

CHITTAGONG, Aug 13: Journalist Nurul Islam, one of the organisers of liberation war, passed away at his residence at Sher Shah Chittagong Journalists Cooperative Housing Society in the port city Tuesday.

He was 81. He left behind wife, three sons, three daughters, a host of relatives and well-wishers.  

Former president of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ), Nurul Islam,  worked as a reporter in the Dainik Azadi, Dainik Purbodesh (Dhaka), Dainik Sangbad, Rajshahi Barta, Dainik Janata, Dainik Janakantha and Dainik Bangladesher Swadhinata.

He was the president of the CUJ from 1973 to 1975 and founder of the Chittagong Journalists Cooperative Housing Society. His namaj-e-janaja was held at Chittagong Press Club. He was buried at his village home in Gasbaria of Mirsarai upazila of the district on Tuesday.

Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and secretary general Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Dhaka Union Journalists (DUJ) president Altaf Mahmud and general secretary Quddus Afrad, CUJ president Ezaz Yusufi and general secretary Hasan Ferdous, Cittagong Press Club president Ali Abbas and general secretary Mohsin Chowdhury, among others, expressed deep shock at his death.
