Journo Anis Alamgir sent to jail as remand ends

Journalist Anis Alamgir has been sent to jail after the remand ended in an Anti-Terrorism Act case filed with Uttara West Police Station in Dhaka, reports bdnews24.com.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasan Shahadat passed the order on Saturday, confirmed Prosecution Sub-Inspector Shamim Hossain.
After a five-day remand, investigation officer Inspector Kazi Shahnewaz of the Detective Branch of police produced Alamgir before the court and sought his detention in jail.
The petition said Anis was interrogated in police custody, during which 'crucial information relevant to the case was obtained'.
It added that the information is currently being verified. If it is found to be accurate, it may be necessary to place him on remand. In view of this, the investigating officer requested that he be kept in prison.
The defendant's lawyer Nazneen Nahar and several other lawyers applied for a division for him in prison.
