Journos need a vision to be famous, seminar told

The Department of Journalism and Media Studies (JMS) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) celebrated the first JMS media day Monday amid festivity and a discussion programme.
JU Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Farzana Islam inaugurated the programme at 9.30am on the premises of the faculty of Arts and Humanities as the chief guest releasing balloons and pigeons.
Sakhawat Ali Khan, professor of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) also the oldest teacher of journalism of the country and Shykh Seraj, director of Channel i were the special guests.
The department also inaugurated its new premises Sunday in the Arts and Humanities faculty building.
Later, a discussion was also held at the Zahir Raihan auditorium.
The JU VC said, "The journalists are playing a vital role in the country by publishing positive news about different sectors. They also help people to be conscious about economics, politics health, education and so on."
Prof Mashrur Shahid Hossain, chairmen of JMS department chaired the programme.
Shykh Seraj stressed on development of journalism.
He said, "News isn't confined only to politics and crimes. Development news is important both for the print and the electronic media.
"Agriculture plays the most vital role in our economy but most of the media in our country don't give any priority to this sector."
