Prime Minister's ICT Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy called Thursday for making public services available to the people by utilising the opportunities of ICT aiming to bring a meaningful change in their life and livelihood, reports BSS.
"The main objective of Digital Bangladesh is to reach government services to the doorsteps of the common people by taking advantages of ICT for changing their lots," he told a tab distribution function at ICT Division in the city.
State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak and ICT Secretary Shyam Sundar Sikder, among others, addressed the function while chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Sunil Kanti Bose, head of different government organisations, senior officials and IT experts were present on the occasion.
Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said, "We can use ICT as an effective tool for combating corruption from government organisations as computer-based services never allow this social menace."
The ICT sector witnessed a tremendous success in the past six years as the present government declared the vision of building 'Digital Bangladesh' by 2021, he said. "The programmes for building a technologically advanced 'Digital Bangladesh' are being implemented successfully to fulfill the target, he added.
"We have made many landmark ICT programmes, including world's largest web-portal comprising 25000 websites of government offices, introduction of 23,500 multi-media class rooms, setting up computer labs at 3500 educational institutions," Joy added. "All these are success stories in the field of ICT," he added.
"We are successfully expanding 3G network across the country to reach the benefit of ICT to the people aiming to ensure their contribution to building 'Digital Bangladesh' by 2021," he said adding the government now is planning to introduce 4G network in the country. "We have plans for auctioning 4G spectrum in 2016," he added.
At the function, Joy talked to officials and local Awami League leaders of Tungipara Upazila of Gopalganj district and Pirganj Upazila of Thakurgaon district through video conference on the occasion of distributing tab PCs.
Palak said under National ICT Infra-Network for Bangladesh Government Phase-2, a total of 18,132 tabs were distributed on the day among government officers at district and upazila levels. "We have plan to distribute 25000 tabs among district and upazila level government officials to ensure better public services," he added.
