JS body for law to realise compensation from parties

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Labour and Employment made a recommendation Tuesday for making law to realise compensation for the losses incurred by the workers and owners due to the hartal (strike) and blockade, from those who are responsible.
They also suggested putting in place another law to fix the compensation amount for a worker if he or she dies in an accident occurs due to the negligence of the parties.
The recommendations were made at the 6th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its chairman Mannujan Sufian in the chair.
Other committee members including State Minister for Labour M Mujibul Haq, M Israfil Alam, Anowarul Abedin Khan, Chhabi Biswas, Shirin Akhtar, Ruhul Amin and Rezaul Haq Chowdhury were present in the meeting.
The committee also recommended building dormitories for garment workers in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and taking necessary steps to implement the law formulated by the labour ministry for the transport workers.
The meeting was informed that 49 affected workers have been given assistance from the Sramik Kalyan Fund. Assistance for affected workers will be continuing in the future. Besides, the government is extending cooperation in different ways to keep production, marketing and transportation of goods normal so that the owners are not affected.
