JS body for more deep tube-wells in rural areas

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Planning Wednesday recommended installing more deep tube-wells under the physical infrastructure programme to ensure drinking water for the rural people.

The committee also suggested conducting feasibility study before preparing any project to ensure that it is realistic.

The recommendations came at the 8th meeting of the committee at the parliament, with its chairman Abul Kalam Azad in the chair.

Other committee members, who attended the meeting, include Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, Shawkat Ali, Rafiqul Islam Bir Uttam, Muhibur Rahman Manik, Abdul Hye and Tajul Islam. State minister for finance MA Mannan also attended the meeting at special invitation.

In the meeting, overall activities of the Physical Infrastructure Department of Planning Commission were discussed.

The committee suggested the Planning Commission to formulate a guideline for preparation of long-term and far-sighted planning, keeping in mind the issues like population growth, demand of population, and scarcity of land and resources etc.
