JS body for pinpointing ineffective land laws

The parliamentary standing committee on the land ministry recommended on Wednesday that the ministry take necessary steps to reduce the number of unnecessary laws by identifying the ineffective ones.

The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) committee also suggested completing the computerisation of RS land record and 'khatian' for preventing filing of false cases over land.

The recommendations came at the 11th meeting of the committee at the parliament building. Committee chairman Rezaul Karim Heera chaired the meeting.

The committee made the suggestions while discussing enforcement of the land laws since British period and their effectiveness.

The committee also recommended necessary steps to appoint assistant commissioners (land) in the vacant posts to ease citizens' sufferings.   

Meanwhile, in another meeting of the JS committee on women and children affairs ministry, it was suggested to improve the design and quality of the dresses made by the women entrepreneurs and use environment-friendly raw materials in the production process.

The committee also recommended that the ministry take necessary steps to create employment and facilities for higher education for women's empowerment.

The suggestions came at the 12th meeting of the committee at the parliament building. Committee chairman Rebeka Momin chaired the meeting.

The suggestions came as the committee discussed the progress in activities undertaken during the last five years for socio-economic development of women.

Besides, the committee discussed the progress in implementation of the DNA law and further actions.   

The meeting was informed that steps had been taken to implement the Women Development Policy 2011. Besides, the Domestic Violence Prevention and Protection Act 2013 and DNA Act 2014 had been enacted along with introduction of a national helpline for preventing violence against women and children. The helpline remains active for 24 hours.
