The parliamentary standing committee on public accounts (PA) Sunday recommended resolving audit objections for the fiscal years 2005-2009 and 2010-2011 involving Tk 321 million of 20 export branches of 12 commercial banks under banking and finance division.
The committee asked the authorities concerned to settle the cases filed against the audit objections and deposit the realised money with the public exchequer.
The audit report showed that the government incurred a loss of Tk 36.67 million as extra cash incentive was paid than the fixed rate to shoe, sandal and bag exporters while Tk 6.11 million due to the payment of cash incentives violating rules, although the exporters were enjoying bonded warehouse facilities.
It also suggested that the Bangladesh Bank (BB) issue circular regarding classification of agricultural and industrial products. Besides, steps should be taken to settle various cases filed against the audit objections of revenue losses of Tk 60.24 million which was paid as cash incentives against cigarette and bidi export after purchasing from the market. The committee asked the authorities concerned to resolve the cases immediately and realise the money.
The committee also recommended taking steps to dispose of the pending cases against those who received cash incentives violating rules without applying within the stipulated time and derived benefit before the repatriation of the export proceeds, identify those who are responsible and deposit the realised money.
It also suggested that the audit objections regarding payment of over Tk 44 million cash incentives than the fixed rate to leather footwear exporters should be re-audited within next three months as per the ruling of the High Court and submit the report to the PA committee by seven days.
The PA committee suggested settling the audit objections involving Tk 53.96 million which was paid as cash incentives unlawfully against the export value of betel-nut and mahogony.
The suggestions came at the 32nd meeting of the PA committee held at the parliament building with committee chairman Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir in the chair.
