Jahangirnagar University (JU) has approved a budget of Tk 3.487 billion (Tk348.70 crore) for the financial year 2026-27.
Treasurer Professor M Abdur Rab presented the fiscal plan at the university's annual Senate session on Saturday (June 27).
The session was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan.
This year, the size of the budget increased by Tk 253.5 million (Tk 25.35 crore) compared to the previous year's Tk 3.2335 billion (Tk 323.35 crore).
By analysing the budget allocation of the university, it was seen that an amount of Tk2.0143 billion (Tk201.43 crore) has been set aside for salaries and allowances of the university teachers, officers and employees, which is 57.77 per cent of the total budget outlay.
Tk 780.3 million (Tk 78.03 crore) was earmarked for goods and services (general), which is 22.38 per cent of the total budget, while Tk 94.7 million (Tk 9.47 crore) was earmarked for goods and services (maintenance and repairs), which represents 2.72 per cent of the total allocation.
The university authorities allocated Tk 371.4 million (Tk37.14 crore) for pension and retirement benefits, which is 10.65 per cent of the total budget.
An allocation of Tk 7.0 million (Tk70.00 lakh) was made for primary healthcare assistance, which is 0.20 per cent of the total budget.
Tk43 million (Tk 4.30 crore) was allotted for other expenditures, which account for 1.23 per cent of the total budget, and Tk 113.7 million (Tk11.37 crore) was set aside for machinery and equipment expenses, which account for 3.26 per cent of the entire budget.
Furthermore, Tk 24.4 million (Tk2.44 crore) was allocated for vehicle procurement, which is 0.70 per cent of the total budget, while Tk 28.2 million (Tk 2.82 crore) was designated for information and communication technology.
