JU butterfly fair today

With a view to creating awareness of butterfly, a daylong fair will be held on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus today (Friday) amid festivity and fanfare.
The Zoology Department of the university in collaboration with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and 'Prakriti O Jiban Foundation' will organise the fair.
The JU vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Farzana Islam will inaugurate the fair as the chief guest at 9:30 am at the Zahir Raihan Auditorium.
A book on butterfly named 'Butterflies of Bangladesh-Inventory Third Phase' will also be unveiled at the fair.
Convener of the fair Manowar Hossian, professor of Zoology Department, said  lifetime honour will be given to Prof Sohorab Ali, a teacher of the Zoology Department of Rajshahi University, for his outstanding contribution to the research of zoological sector.
Different kinds of butterfly species will be displayed at the fair.
"Focusing the importance of butterflies in maintaining ecological balance and creating awareness of butterfly are the prime aims of the fair," said Prof Monwar Hossain.
The daylong butterfly fair includes children art competition on butterfly, butterfly photography exhibition, live butterfly display, butterfly kites flying, debate competition on butterfly and documentary exhibition on butterfly.
