Jahangirnagar University (JU) started organising a three-day Arabic Calligraphy Workshop from Monday, aiming to explore the professional value of the art form and expressing spirituality in Ramadan.
Organised to mark the 13th founding anniversary of JU's Department of Fine Art, the workshop was inaugurated by the institution's Arts and Humanities Faculty Dean Professor Dr. Md. Mozammel Haque.
Speakers at the workshop highlighted the career opportunities calligraphy offers both locally and internationally.
Asst Prof Dhiman Sarkar said the workshop has dual purpose: expressing spiritual thoughts through Arabic script during Ramadan, and exploring the artistic value of calligraphy from a professional perspective.
Led by calligraphy artist Md. Abu Bakr Siddique, with co-instructors Sultana Mimi and Jamil Ahmed, the workshop will continue at Zahir Raihan Auditorium until March 19. Around 50 students from various departments of JU are participating in the training sessions.
