JU marks 53rd anniv

A procession led by Vice chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Prof Dr Md Nurul Alam was brought out on the campus on Friday, marking the 53rd founding anniversary of the university

On the occasion of its 53rd anniversary, Jahangirnagar University (JU) celebrated 'University Day' with an array of colorful events on Friday.

The celebrations commenced in the morning with a jubilant procession, starting from the Business Studies Faculty and concluding at Selim Al Deen Muktamancha.

During the opening ceremony, Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Md Nurul Alam briefly narrated the university's 53-year journey, noting the remarkable achievements of its teachers and students in different disciplines such as education, research, arts, literature, politics, and sports, both locally and internationally.

The VC said a significant number of faculties and students from JU earned distinction by securing a place among the top two per cent of the world's best scientists.

Furthermore, the university was included in the 'World University Ranking 2024' for education and research, as recognized by the UK-based Times Higher Education (THE) magazine, bringing honor and glory to the institution, he stated.

The Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) and the Students Counseling and Guidance Centre jointly organised additional day-long activities including blood group determination, a commemoration meetimg at Selim Al Deen Muktmancha, football and handball matches between former and current students, as well as cultural events.

In addition, the Fine Arts Department hosted a painting exhibition in the Zahir Raihan Auditorium, and a Pitha Mela was arranged in the central cafeteria area.

Jahangirnagar University Day has been being observed annually on January 12 since 2001. The VC expressed gratitude to former VC Prof Abdul Bayes for introducing University Day in 2001.
