Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday observed the 104th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day in a befitting manner through a daylong programme.

At 10 am, a colourful procession led by JU Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Nurul Alam was brought out from the university's Central Shahid Minar.

The procession terminated at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall where the VC paid homage to the Father of the Nation by placing a wreath before his portrait and prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.

A discussion meeting on Bangabandhu and his enduring love for the people of Bangladesh was held at the seminar room of the Zahir Raihan Auditorium at 3:30 pm.

National University VC Prof Dr Md Moshiur Rahman was the main speaker.

The JU vice-chancellor observed, "Bangladesh achieved independence under Bangabandhu's leadership, granting us the cherished practice of free-thinking that we enjoy today. He passed lengthy periods in prison but remarkably secured our freedom within just nine months, a rarity in world history."
