Classes for first-year undergraduate students of the 2025-26 academic session (55th batch) at Jahangirnagar University will begin on June 17.
The university authorities have also directed students who have already completed their academic tenure to vacate residential halls by May 19.
The directive was issued through an office order signed by Acting Registrar Dr ABM Azizur Rahman on Monday night.
According to the order, the decision has been taken to ensure accommodation for incoming students. "Academic activities for first-year students admitted in the 2025-26 session will begin on June 17, 2026. Necessary steps are being taken to ensure their residential facilities," it stated.
The administration noted that JU, the country's only fully residential public university, has already ensured seat allocation for students of the 53rd and 54th batches.
However, it observed that a significant number of students from various batches continue to occupy hall seats even after completing their academic programmes, creating obstacles to maintaining a disciplined residential environment.
In this context, the administration has instructed all such students currently staying in halls to vacate their seats voluntarily by May 19 and cooperate with hall authorities to facilitate accommodation for the new batch.
