Students, faculty members, and representatives of the registered graduate senate at Jahangirnagar University (JU) organised human chains, protest marches, and rallies, demanding a trial and capital punishment for those responsible for the recent rape incident at the university.

Starting at 10 am on Wednesday, members of the registered graduate senate held a human chain event at the university's Shahid Minar premises.

Former Vice-Chancellor Sharrif Enamul Kabir expressed their demands, stating, "We demand capital punishment for the perpetrators of this heinous incident. The number of illegal students exceeds 5,000, not 2,500, leading to an inhumane living environment for regular students. Immediate measures should be taken to evacuate the halls from unauthorized occupants.

Hall provosts and wardens must be actively present in the halls, maintaining a database of residents."
