Temporary employees at Jahangirnagar University (JU), who are paid on a daily basis, have announced a sit-in strike on July 17 seeking job regularisation.
In a letter to the university's vice-chancellor on Monday, the workers pushed for their demand and mentioned about the demonstration.
According to the letter, the daily wage employees had previously submitted memorandums on three occasions, urging for permanent employment. In response, the authorities only provided assurances.
However, the workers have not witnessed any visible progress despite the assurances.
Expressing frustration, Shamsul Alam, a guard at Begum Sufia Kamal Hall, said, "We have repeatedly appealed to the administration for job permanency. Despite repeated assurances, our demands remain unmet. As a unified front, we have decided to commence the strike from the following week."
