The WRC was established at JU in 2004, aiming at saving endangered wildlife and providing them with safe accommodation.

At present 11 species of amphibian, 19 reptiles, and 131 of mammals are now housed in the WRC located at the southern part of the JU campus.

The centre is providing ample opportunity to the researchers and students of the Zoology department to carry out their research on the behaviour and life style of the animals living there, said chairman of Zoology department and founder of the WRC Professor Mostafa Firoz.

Terming it as an exceptional research centre of its kind in the country, he said, it had been set up to provide the endangered wildlife a safe natural abode where ailing or injured animals can get proper care and treatment.

The WRC now houses owls, otters, eagles, deer, snakes and tortoise and of them otter, tortoise and snakes laid eggs.

The centre organises various programmes including bird fair and seminar for creating greater awareness about the necessity of maintaining the ecological balance by preserving the flora and fauna.
