Karim for formulation of environment friendly laws

Adviser for Agriculture, Environment and Forest CS Karim stressed the need for formulation of environment friendly laws for ensuring sustainable development, reports BSS.
He said to stop the environmental pollution strict enforcement of laws will be ensured.
The adviser was addressing the 5th All Asia Public Interest Environmental Law Conference in the conference room of BRAC Inn Centre in the city Friday.
Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) in association with American Bar Association organised the conference.
With Atiq A Rahman of Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies in the chair, the conference was addressed, among others, by Sneha Barot of American Bar Association, Director of the BELA Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Lalanath de Silva of Environment Law Alliance Worldwide.
Describing the environmental change as a dynamic process, Karim said "We have to bring dynamism in laws related to environment to meet the needs of the people."
"Unplanned urbanisation, absence of proper waste management policies are responsible for environmental pollution," he said adding that time befitting laws and its enforcement are needed to minimise the pollution.
The adviser said the government has taken steps to face the challenges of climate change as it has been threatening Bangladesh due to its geographical location.
Stressing the need for taking coordinated steps to protect environment, he said, initiatives at national and international levels could prevent environmental pollution.
Syeda Rizwana said the conference will put forward a set of recommendations on environment laws sharing experience of the participants which will greatly help formulate proper laws.
