The officer-in-charge of Khulna Railway Police and another police personnel have been withdrawn from duty after they were accused of raping a woman following her arrest, reports bdnews24.com.

The closed police officers are Khulna GRP (Railway) Police Station OC Osman Gani Pathan and Assistant Sub-Inspector Nazmul Hoque.

The two were moved from Khulna GRP Station to Pakshey District Railway Police Line on Wednesday in order to conduct a 'fair and independent probe' on the incident, said Kushtia Railway Circle's Assistant Superintendent of Police Firoz Ahmed.

The 21-year-old arrestee alleged that police had arrested her at Khulna Railway Station on Friday and took her to the railway police station.

There, she alleged, OC Osman Gani, Sub-Inspector Goutam Kumar Pal, Assistant Sub-Inspector Nazmul Hoque and constables 'Mizan' and 'Harun' took turns to rape her at night.

The woman levelled the allegation against the five after police presented her before a court in a case over the possession of contraband Phensedyl cough syrup on Saturday.

Atikus Samad, judicial magistrate of the court, ordered a medical test on the woman to verify her statement. She was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital for a test and later sent to jail on Monday.

The GRP (Railway) police subsequently formed a three-strong panel, led by Superintendent Firoz Ahmed, to investigate the incident.

"Proof of 'negligect of duty' was found against two of them. They were closed in order to conduct a fair and independent probe. No decision has been taken against the three other policemen."

The investigator refused to comment on the rape allegation until the end of investigation.

The victim's relatives said she was apprehended by police on Aug 2 upon her arrival at Khulna Railway Station from Jashore.

"OC Osman Gani raped her late in the night. Later four police personnel also violated her. She was presented before court over a drug case with five bottles of Phensedyl."
