Kidnapped girl rescued in Jamalpur, abductors held

JAMALPUR, Nov 14 (UNB): Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued a minor girl, who was allegedly abducted by some miscreants from her town residence on Wednesday, from Chaitanipara village in sadar upazila on Thursday and arrested a couple for their involvement in the incident.

The rescued girl was identified as Baishakhi, 6, daughter of Abu Samar, a resident of Shahapur in the town.

RAB sources, quoting the victim's family, said a group of miscreants had picked up Baishakhi into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from their Shahapur residence in the town and speeded away towards an unknown direction on Wednesday afternoon.

Later the abductors over mobile phone demanded Tk 0.2 million as ransom from the family for the release of the girl.

Following complaint from Baishakhi's family, a team of the elite force, led by its company commander Anisuzzaman, launched a drive at Biara Bazar in sadar upazila and arrested Anwar Hossain, 35, and his wife Laboni Akter, 30, when they were about to go to a shop of b'Kash, mobile money transfer service, agent to withdraw the ransom money on Thursday.

Later the RAB team, following Anwar and Laboni's statement, raided the house of one Lal Mia at Chaitanipara village in sadar upazila and rescued Baishakhi in the afternoon.
