CHITTAGONG, Dec 23 (UNB): An alleged kidnapper was killed and three others were hurt in a lynch mob attack at Madam Bibirhat under Sitakunda Upazila Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Tofazzal Hossain (30).
Police and locals said a group of miscreants, numbering 5, halted an auto-rickshaw carrying Jahir Uddin, a trader of Madam Bibirhat, on the Chittagong-Dhaka Highway on his way to Fouzdarhat after withdrawing money from a bank in the city.
The thugs, identifying themselves as detectives, tried to force the trader into a microbus they were in.
Hearing screams of the victim, locals rushed in and caught four of the hoodlums while their other accomplice managed to flee the scene.
Later, they gave the alleged kidnappers a good beating, leaving them injured. The angry mob also torched their microbus.
The injured kidnappers were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared Tofazzal dead in the evening, said sources at the CMCH Police Camp.
