JHENIDAH, Aug 5: The 74th death anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore will be observed tomorrow (Thursday), the 22nd day of the Bengali month of Sraban in Kushtia.
Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammelon Parishad, Kushtia branch, will remember Tagore through arranging programmes at Shilpakala auditorium in Kushtia town Thursday evening.
Rabindranath, who won the Nobel Prize in 2013 for English version of his 'Gitanjoly', was the first Asian to be honored with the prestigious award.
Rabindranath, a man of versatile talents, was a poet, dramatist, artiste, essayist, composer, musician, linguist, philosopher, academician and social reformer.
Tagore, who has contributed to almost all branches and sub-branches of literature, is considered as a towering cultural figure in all Bangla speaking regions of in the world. He is the only legendary bard to reach Bangla literature to the field of world literature.
He spent a lot of time at rural areas of Kushtia, Pabna and Rajshahi, merged with people and composed valuable literary works.
Rabindranath in his 'Chhinnopatro', noted that he had first come to Kumarkhali of Kushtia with his grandfather by train in 1871 and took over the land-lordship of Kumarkhali in 1892.
