Language hero Shamsul Haque's death anniv observed

The 17th death anniversary of Language Movement veteran M Shamsul Haque, also a renowned politician and close aide to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed on Thursday.
In observance of the day, doa mahful, Quran Khwani and memorial discussions were held at his ancestral home in Mymensigh and several other places of the country, says a press release.
M Shamsul Haque, who was honoured with Ekushey Padak (posthumously) as a language hero, played active role in the Six-point Movement of 1966, Language Movement of 1952, Jukto Front election of 1954 and the Liberation War of 1971.
He was elected lawmaker thrice from the Mymensigh-2 constituency with Awami League ticket - in the national elections of 1986, 1991 and 1996.
