Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddique stressed Monday on providing high speed Internet and reaching Information Technology (IT) to every house of the country, reports BSS.
"We have to bring equity in the case of using ICT- we cannot allow it to happen that only the people with high income group will use ICT, step have to be taken to ensure each citizen's access to ICT," he said while addressing a meeting on Basic ICT Skills Transfer up to Upazila Level at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) in the city.
He called for taking necessary step to create at least 0.1 million freelancers within four years to increase foreign currency earning.
"I think in the near future the ICT sector would emerge as prime sector for earning foreign currency surpassing the garment sector and the freelancers will play vital role to make its contribution in the economy," Latif Siddique said.
Chaired by BCC Executive Director A S M Ashraful Islam, the function was also addressed, among others, by ICT Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan, Education Secretary Dr Mohammad Sadik and Additional Secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed.
In his keynote paper Basic ICT Skills Transfer up to Upazila Level Project Director Shyama Prasad Bepari highlighted the successes achieved through implementation of the project and urged the government to launch new project about developing teacher-led digital content for multimedia class room.
