Law and order disruption to be dealt with iron hand: DMP

FE REPORT | July 16, 2024 00:00:00

If anyone tries to disrupt law and order centering the quota reform movement, it will be dealt with an iron hand, warned Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman on Monday.

The DMP commissioner issued the warning while briefing the media about safety and security measures to be taken by DMP on the occasion of Holy Ashura and Tajia procession at Hosni Dalan, Imambara in the capital, saying that stern legal action would be taken if violence takes place over the movement.

"The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court gave a month-long status quo on the verdict of the High Court about quota reform. Quota reform is now a matter that would be decided by the court," he said.

"So, it is the responsibility for all citizens to abide by the court order. We are all bound to obey the court order. What action police will take would be in line with the law," he maintained.

He said that if anyone tried to break the law and order on the plea of quota reform, the police will deal with it sternly.
