FE REPORT
A legal notice has been served for restoration of the Armed Police Battalion's (APBN) 'original duties' at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) within three days.
The legal notice was served upon the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and other respondents demanding the restoration of the APBN's to the duties for security and law enforcement purposes at the HSIA.
The notice also demanded the withdrawal of the members of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) from duty at the HSIA by the same time.
The Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary, Home Affairs Secretary, Finance Secretary, Bangladesh Air Force, Chairman of the CAAB, Inspector General of Police, Executive Director of the HSIA, and Additional Inspector General of Police (APBN) have been asked to comply with the notice.
Mohammad Siddique Ullah Miah, a Supreme Court lawyer, sent the legal notice on Sunday, warning that if the notice recipients fail to take necessary steps in compliance with the notice, he would take the matter to the appropriate court of law.
The notice said, "After the second liberation war of August 5, 2024, by the students and the general public of Bangladesh, the autocratic prime minister fled to India, and at the same time, the Executive Director of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport deployed members of the Bangladesh Air Force to the Dhaka airport instead of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) when the APBN members tried to save their lives from the unexpected situation."
After deploying members of the Bangladesh Air Force instead of the Armed Police Battalion, gold, narcotics smuggling, and human trafficking were increasing day by day, the notice claimed, quoting different newspapers.
It is pertinent to mention here that since the members of the Air Force have no authority to investigate, they were failing to trace out the smugglers or offenders, also read the notice.
The notice sender said that after August 5, the basis on which Air Force members were deployed in place of APBN members is totally unknown to all, and worldwide, the police personnel of the country are entrusted with the security of their respective airports
