Eight people were killed and 29 others injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Chuadanga, Chapainawabganj, Bagerhat, Gopalganj and Gaibandha districts on Saturday, report agencies.
In Chuadanga, three people were killed and 29 others injured in separate lightning strikes in Jibannagar, Damurhuda and Sadar upazilas.
Witnesses said college student Sader Ali, 24, son of Abul Hashem of Tentulia village and Saidur Rahman, 26, of Kushodanga village in Jibannagar were killed when they were struck by lightning in the morning.
Besides, 26 people were injured as thunderbolts hit them at Kushodanga, Ashpara and Tentulia villages of the uapzila.
The injured were admitted to Jibannagar Upazila health complex. Among them, the condition of 11 people was stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, another thunderbolt struck Mandar Ali and his two cows when he went to the courtyard of his house to take the cows to the cowshed amid storm at Nastipur village in Damurhuda upazila at 7.0am on the day, leaving him and his cows dead on the spot.
In Sadar Upazila, day-labourer Anusuddin, 42, was injured when a thunderbolt hit him at Akandabaria village in the morning.
Besides, Nafiza Khatun, daughter of Kamruzzaman of Shyampur village, and Majnu Miah of Kurulgachhi village in Damurhuda Upazila, sustained injuries as lightning struck them in the morning.
In Chapainawabganj, two people were killed being struck by lightning in Sadar upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Anisur Rahman, 55, and Islam Moni, 35.
In Bagerhat, a middle-aged farmer, Akram Sheikh, 45, was killed as he was struck by a lightning while working in a field at noon.
In Gopalganj, a thunderbolt struck housewife Smriti Saha, 35, at Patgati Bazar in Tungipara Upazila around 12 noon, leaving her dead on the spot.
In Gaibandha, 40-year-old housewife Amena Begum was struck by lightning while working in her house courtyard in Sadar Upazila.
