CHITTAGONG, Jan 6: Karnaphuli Shipyard Ltd (KSL), a private ship builder, is manufacturing the country's first ever dredger for the state-owned Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
The dredger, involving a making cost of Tk 600 million (60 crore) will be supplied to BIWTA by June next.
An agreement to this effect was signed between KSL and BIWTA at the shipping ministry in Dhaka recently.
Engineer MA Rashid of KSL and Nuruzzaman Biswas, additional chief engineer of BIWTA, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
KSL is manufacturing the dredger under joint venture with Vosta LMG of the Netherlands, the second largest dredger manufacturer in the world, that has been providing technical support to the local shipyard.
