The High Court (HC) on Sunday directed government bodies to locate seven RAB-8 officials, who were involved in the shooting and maiming of Limon Hossen in Jhalakathi in 2011.

The government bodies have also been ordered to communicate their address to the court.

Home affairs ministry, law ministry, Inspector General of Police, director general of Rapid Action Battalion, commander-in-charge of RAB-8, Jhalakathi's deputy commissioner and police superintendent, and Rajapur Police Station officer-in-charge in Jhalakathi have been asked to comply with the order.

The HC also issued a rule upon the government to show cause as to why the shooting of Md Limon Hossen by members of RAB-8 in 2011, that led to the amputation of his left leg, and the filing of false cases against him and his detention for over 45 days, should not be declared illegal.

It also requires the government to show cause why Limon should not be compensated to the extent of Tk 26 million for the harm suffered by him, arising from the shooting and subsequent harassment he faced.

A HC bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Lemon.

Lemon Hossen, now 30 and a lecturer at Gono Biswabidyalay, filed the writ petition.
