Khairul Islam Majority of secondary school students have expressed grave concern over the recently introduced 'creative question system' (CQS) in mathematics and higher mathematics for class IX. A recent survey conducted by Ovibhabak Sommilito Parishad came up with the students' concern and suggested the authorities postpone the CQS at least for next two years. According to the report findings, inadequate number of qualified teachers and lack of necessary trainings also led the existing crisis into further complexities. The survey included around 200 students from 12 city schools, showed 90 per cent students dislike the creative math questions, leading them into uncertainty about their success in the examinations. Quoting the survey findings, general secretary of the platform Nipa Sultana told the FE that because of creative system, students hardly understand and even teachers aren't familiar with the subjects. "Just see the results of half-yearly examinations, where majority of the students failed in their math subjects," Ms Sultana said. She said that besides, some schools even don't have necessary subject-oriented teachers, especially in rural areas. As a result, they are bound to continue their schooling by other subject (oriented) teachers. When contacted Dhaka Education Board Chairman Prof Taslima Begum told the FE that they arranged necessary training for the teachers, especially for the math teachers to overcome the crisis. Claiming the newly introduced creative system student-friendly and helpful to generate more talents, the board chairman said that students will secure more marks in the examinations compared to the traditional system. She, however, said the government has trained at least two teachers from each school across the country and the training programme will continue.
