Police arrested an absconding suspect who allegedly deceived people by impersonating the nephew of the home minister and younger brother of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner from Kamrangircahr of Dhaka on Wednesday.
The arrestee is Md Jhutan Miah, a resident of Faridganj thana under Chandpur district, but he used to live in Kamrangirchar area.
Nur Mohammad, officer-in-charge of Hazaribagh thana, said the suspect took Tk 7.0 million from one Abdul Razzak posing as the nephew of the home minister and younger of the DMP commissioner.
The victim filed a case with Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate-1 Court that issued an arrest warrant against him, he said.
With the help of technology, detectives detected his position and arrested him from the Kamrangirchar area on Wednesday, the OC said.
The man was handed over to the Faridganj thana to take necessary action in this connection, he added.
