Man held for 'raping' Dutch woman

COX'S BAZAR, Sept 28 (bdnews24.com): Police in the tourist town of Cox's Bazar have detained a man on charges of raping a Dutch woman doing research on sexual violence.
On a complaint from the woman on Sept. 26, police on Saturday night arrested Shahin Bhuiyan Sunny, manager of Mermaid Restaurant, the district's additional superintendent of police Imam Hossain said.
Sunny comes from Enayetpur of Sirajganj.
In the written complaint, she said she was raped at Dream Castle Hotel at Kolatoli in the town on the night of Sept. 25.
"The medical test of the tourist was done on Saturday. The report is yet to be received," Hossain said
Cox's Bazar Model Police Station sub-inspector Ranjit Barua said, "After the police raid Sunny tried to flee. He was arrested near Hotel Media International at around 10 Saturday night."
Hossain said the tourist came to Cox's Bazar and rented a room in the hotel on Sept. 25. She got acquainted with Sunny when she had gone out to eat at the restaurant.
The Dutch ambassador in Dhaka said to bdnews24.com, "I heard about the incident in Cox's Bazar from newspapers. I don't know her name, but she is a Dutch.
"As far as I know she is fine now. My colleagues have already contacted her," Bea ten Tusscher, the envoy, said.
The government is giving importance to the incident, she said.
"We are yet to get the details of the incident. Certainly, we will provide assistance to her if she desires," Ten Tusscher said.
