CHATTOGRAM, June 17: A court in Chattogram has sentenced a man to death for killing a five-year-old child and cutting his body into six pieces.
Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Chattogram, Muhammad Ali Akkas, pronounced the verdict today (Wednesday).
Accused Abir Ali was present in the court when the verdict was pronounced.
The argumentative hearing of the case concluded last Saturday before the court of Chattogram Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge. A total of 33 witnesses testified in the case.
It may be mentioned that on November 14, 2022, Ayat went missing while studying Arabic at a mosque next to her house in Nayarhat area of CEPZ thana in port city.
Later, investigation revealed that the child was kidnapped by her neighbour Abir for ransom. But, unable to find a place to keep the child, he strangled her to death and cut her body into six pieces.
On November 30, 2022, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) recovered Ayat's two legs from a hole in the sluice gate adjacent to Akmal Ali Ghat on Outer Ring Road, and the following day, her severed head.
