CHITTAGONG, July 24: The package of recommendations in the Master Plan of Chittagong City, has not yet been implemented excepting a few due to lack of co-ordination between Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) even after expiry of over four and a half decades.
The sites, which were earmarked for different purpose earlier, will now be used in other works. The Master Plan meant for the city was formulated in the year 1961. It clearly earmarked the sites and location of the industrial zone, residential areas, roads, culverts, play grounds, natural water reservoir etc.
The recommendations included laying of 26 gardens and leaving vast open spaces. The CDA and CCC have been assigned with the task of constructing the same. But the concerned organisations failed to comply with the directions.
It is revealed in an investigation, out of those 20 gardens and open space, only four have so far been implemented while no positive step has been taken in respect of the remaining ones by the CDA and CCC.
On the other hand, even small sized open places located at the different part of the city have been used in building markets.
A regional park over 107 acres of land at Kalurgat Industrial Zone, similar parks over 189 acres of land at Chawkbazar, 99 acres at Hathazari and 60 acres at Halishahar areas have not been implemented.
It is not only disrupting the normal life style of the people but also depriving the children from playing.
