Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh urges businesses and private offices to shut by 8:00 pm and restaurants by 10:00 pm to put activities in order.
"I call upon private offices, shops, markets and shopping malls to shut by 8:00 pm. Restaurants can operate until 10:00 pm," he told a press briefing marking the second anniversary of his takeover as mayor at Nagar Bhaban on Monday.
"This will help bring discipline in activities and city dwellers will get much time to spend with family members and thus strengthen social and family bond."
The mayor, however, says except pharmacies and medical centres, other entities must seek permission from the DSCC for operating beyond the designated time.
The DSCC has initiated to make Dhaka city a developed and modern one with all civic amenities in place.
About waterlogging, he says this will disappear within 30 minutes after rainfall this year as the DSCC has taken measures in this regard.
Mr Taposh says his corporation has also taken steps to destroy Aedes mosquitoes, manage waste and put restrictions on the movement of non-motorised vehicles on city roads.
The DSCC will build new kitchen markets and playgrounds in some wards soon to facilitate its inhabitants.
The city father further says that revenue collection of his corporation has increased since the assumption of his responsibility as mayor.
"The amount of revenue during my takeover as mayor was Tk 5.24 billion (during fiscal year 2019-20) which increased to Tk 7.03 billion in FY 2020-21."
"Until April of this fiscal, more than Tk 6.77 billion revenue has been collected. I believe revenue collection by the corporation during the current fiscal will cross Tk 8.0 billion."
Increased revenue collection has been possible for proper supervision and the discovery of new 23 sectors for revenue, Mr Taposh concludes.
