Meeting for smooth plying of river vessels

CHANDPUR, Oct 8 (BSS): A views exchange meeting was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner Saturday to create awareness on the reasons of launch accidents and ways to avoid those for ensuring smooth plying of river vessels.
The meeting was organised on the eve of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr when launches and other river vessels ply in southern river routes with large number of passengers beyond their capacities which results in accidents.
Officials of the district administration, police, vessel owners, sarengs and sukhanis of the launches and cross section of people attended the meeting.
The meeting was told that special launch services will be started on different southern launch routes from October 10 and a magistrate will look after the services.
