Mercury declines slightly in city

FE Report | August 27, 2020 00:00:00

The mercury declined to some extent in the city on Wednesday thanks to heavy wind that blew throughout the day.

Though the city witnessed only 1.0 mm rainfall until 6:00 pm on the day, a 20-25 kph wind and comparatively low humidity kept the city's maximum temperature within 31.7 degrees Celsius. It was 34.3 degrees on Tuesday. The wind speed sometimes rose to 40-50 kph on the day, said Met Office.

It said the formation of a low in the northern bay has been causing heavy wind both in southern and central parts.

Humidity was 64-66 per cent throughout the day, which is lowest in last one month, said Met Office.

The country's highest temperature was 35.2 degrees Celsius at Sayedpur in Nilphamari and the lowest 23.5 degrees in Teknaf on Wednesday. Highest rainfall was also recorded in Teknaf at 45 mm.

The Met Office forecasted light to moderate rain in most places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and only at few places over other five divisions of the country.

Temperature of both day and night might decline further in next twenty four hours as intensity of rain could be increased during the period, Met Office forecasted.

The sun sets at 6:21 pm today (Thursday) and will rise at 5:39 am tomorrow (Friday), according to Met Office.
