Bangladesh Army gave on Sunday military honour to its slain UN peacekeeper Neelkantha Hajong at Army Aviation Group Hangar Complex at Dhaka Canton-ment, said an ISPR press release.

Chief of Army Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhui-yan showed his last respect by placing wreath at the coffin of Hajong.

Nilkantho Hajong, a soldier of Bangladesh Army, was shot dead when miscreants opened fire on a jeep of Bangladesh Transport Con-tingent in Mali's capital Bamako on May 25.

Chief of Army Staff and officers of all ranks gave salute to the coffin of Hajong as last respect and observed one minute silence.

Members of Bangladesh Army played the last post by bugles. The Army chief talked with elder brother of Nilkantha Hajong and expressed his profound sympathy to members of the bereaved family.

The body of Hajong reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday from Mali.

Later, the body of Hajong was sent to his native village Vilagora  under Dhar-mapasha Upazila of Sunamganj district for cremation under military honour.
