State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal defended Sunday the quizzing of Jihad's father Nasir Fakir by police, saying it was done with an 'honest intention' when all efforts of the fire service to rescue the boy from the well went in vain Friday night, reports UNB.
Jihad's father was detained and quizzed when the fire service members could not even detect the boy even after surveying the well with the camera, he said in response to queries by reporters at a press briefing at the Secretariat.
"If there had been any other intention, it would be scrutinised," he told the press briefing held at the Home Ministry after a meeting of the National Committee on Militancy Resistance and Prevention.
The heads of different law enforcement agencies were present at the meeting.
Responding to the same query, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker echoed the State Minister. "Jihad's father was detained for quizzing when confusion arose."
Asked about the allegation of Jihad's mother that he was tortured, the IGP said, "He was not supposed to be ill-treated."
Asked why the interrogation lasted long 12 hours, he said, "This is right that it took too much time. We'll inquire why the extra time was needed."
