The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and different agencies under it are facing difficulties due to acute shortage of manpower affecting their daily activities, sources said.

According to the minutes of the last coordination meeting of MoA made available to the FE, some 6657 posts are lying vacant in the ministry, its departments and agencies.

The ministry has taken a decision to fill up the vacant posts with 'highest carefulness and following exiting laws and regulations properly,' sources said.

In the meeting, chiefs of the departments explained the progress in filling up the vacant posts. The officer presiding over the last coordination meeting laid emphasis on filling up the posts soon according to rules and regulations, a meeting source said.

He also requested the chiefs of the agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture to fill the vacancies soon for the sake of 'improved official work.' He mentioned that the Prime Minister's Office is regularly monitoring the situation.

An official of the ministry requesting anonymity said, "There is a huge shortage of manpower in the ministry and its departments/agencies. As a result, we are facing problems in performing our daily official work. For solving the problem, we are continuing our work through outsourcing."

Activities of the different departments are being hampered seriously due to shortage of manpower across the country, especially at the district level. Shortage of manpower has crippled some departments in the district, which failed to achieve their targets.

"The authorities concerned have been informed of the manpower shortage of the MoA and its agencies," he said adding that necessary measures are being taken immediately to fill up required manpower.

The process of appointment to fill the vacant posts of the ministry and different agencies is going on smoothly. Meanwhile, some officials have been promoted, he said.
