A mobile court disconnected illegal gas connections of five industrial units, ten commercial entities and five captive operators during its drives conducted in February.
Besides, 53.74km gas pipelines and 20,970 illegal residential gas burners and 1027 gas burners were cut off due to bill defaults during the crackdown in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Manikganj, said a press release, issued by Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company.
During the drive, the mobile court also fined two commercial units Tk 20,000 in Dhaka, a commercial organisation in Gazipur Tk 0.1 million and a commercial organisation in Narayanganj Tk 83,027 for having illegal gas connections.
Besides, illegal gas users in Savar and Gazipur were fined Tk 65,500 by the mobile court, the press release said.
Citing country's existing law, the press release said the illegal use and illegal connection of gas is a punishable offence and urged all concerned to refrain from doing such acts.
