Acting Information Secretary Jamil Osman underlined Wednesday the importance of modernising the Press Information Department (PID) for a quick dissemination of the government's policies and activities to the people, reports BSS.
"You should bring dynamism in your work in coordination with other departments of the Information Ministry for passing on to the people the government's information, policies, guidelines and activities in a proper manner," he told a conference of the PID's information officers as the chief guest.
The meeting, presided over by Principal Information Officer (PIO) Iftekhar Hossain, was held in the conference room of PID at Bangladesh Secretariat.
Joint Secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Principal Information Officer (news) Bijan Lal Dev, Senior DPIO Joynal Abedin and senior information officer of Ministry of Home Affairs Shahinul Miah also spoke on the occasion.
Information officers from Dhaka,Chittagong,Khulna, Rajshahi, Barisal and Sylhet as well as different ministries attended the conference.
Jamil Osman, in his speech, described the information officers as `Information diplomats', who are doing a challenging job in publicising the government's policies and activities at home and abroad through their writings.
"The messages of the government should reach the people through your intellectual writings," he told the information officers.
He said the ministry would step up its efforts to develop the PID as a time befitting organisation.
