The Ministry of Health (MoH) has sought an additional allocation of Tk 2.0 billion from the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to buy necessary medical equipment for the government hospitals across the country, officials said.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mohammed Nasim, MP has recently sent a letter to Finance Minister AMA Muhith seeking the fund.
Some 13,262 beds have been increased in the government hospitals in the current fiscal year (FY) from the figure of the last FY. Besides, functioning of the 500-bed Kurmitola General Hospital and 500-bed Mugda General Hospital has already started.
As a result, proper treatment of the patients in the hospitals is being hampered, the health minister said in the letter.
The letter mentioned that some 585 medical colleges, specialised hospitals and district and upazila hospitals under the MoH are operating all over the country.
The numbers of patients are increasing in these hospitals day by day. But it is not possible to provide standard treatment to patients in the hospitals concerned due to lack of modern medical equipment, the letter added.
