MoL to remove inefficient officials from land offices

The Ministry of Land (MoL) will remove inefficient officials and replace them with efficient ones for providing optimum services to the people.

The main objective of the ministry's move is to ensure hassle-free services to the people through purging the land offices of inefficient and corrupt employees.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had categorically said her government would not tolerate corruption in the public administration or government offices.

A high official of the land ministry told the FE that Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury at the 119th meeting of the Land Allocation Committee at the ministry last week had warned the officials and employees of the ministry and land offices to correct themselves if any of them indulged in corruption.

"If you have committed any mistakes in the past… please correct it. Otherwise we (the government) will not take the responsibility for you," the minister said at the meeting.

"You (ministry officials and employees) must be accountable for your duties," he warned.

The minster called upon the officials and employees to discharge their duties and responsibilities with utmost sincerity and dedication, being imbued with the spirit to serve the people of the country.

"We don't want to shoulder the responsibility of bad reputation. You (officials) must gear up your efforts and services," he said, adding that the main aim of the land ministry was to serve the people.

He stressed the need for stopping indiscriminate use of land in the name of land acquisition.

He ordered providing due compensations to the affected land owners in time maintaining utmost transparency.

He said land acquisition should be carried out based on consensus of all concerned for development and the country's interest.

The meeting gave approval for land acquisition for Narsingdi Palli Biddut Samity-1, Shaheed Tazuddin Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur, Chattogram regional campus of National University and some development projects of Rajshahi Development Authority.
